Why joint limits matterWorking envelope
ABB publishes two reach figures for GoFa 5: 950 mm to the wrist centre and 1,050 mm to the tool flange. Its 2021 datasheet limits axis 3 to −225° to +85° and the other five axes to ±180°, which shapes the reachable volume as much as the headline reach does.
The 5 kg figure is the published maximum payload. As with any arm, tool mass, centre of gravity and orientation decide what the application can actually carry.
Repeatability, accuracy and sensing
ABB's 2023 portfolio gives 0.02 mm pose repeatability for GoFa 5; its 2021 datasheet gives 0.05 mm. The cited documents do not name the test standard, so treat cross-brand comparisons of this figure as indicative.
ABB separately states absolute position accuracy of 0.1 mm with its Ultra Accuracy feature, a useful reminder that repeatability and accuracy are different measurements. ABB's launch release describes torque and position sensors in each of the six joints.
What remains unknown
The ABB documents cited here do not publish power consumption, noise or ambient temperature limits for GoFa 5. RoboMag leaves those fields unknown rather than estimating them.
RoboMag has not physically tested GoFa. Reliability, cycle-time and ownership-cost conclusions would require a declared method and evidence beyond published specifications.
Specification history
2 differencesABB Robotics’ own documents do not always publish the same value. RoboMag shows the value from the newest dated document that publishes each field and keeps the others visible, with the document behind each, rather than silently overwriting them.
